Also, be aware that this public IP address is used by many online services to identify and locate you. This is particularly the case with streaming platforms such as Netflix, Molotov.tv, Spotify, Deezer which can thus prevent you from accessing content that is not accessible from the country where you are connecting for broadcasting rights reasons.
The public IP address is also used by social networks and messaging, for security reasons, in the event of an unusual or suspicious connection to an account: it then makes it possible to verify whether the access request is legitimate and to where it comes from.
What is the difference between public IP and local IP?
An IP (for Internet Protocol) address is a number that is used to uniquely identify a device connected to a network using the IP protocol (in particular the Internet).
It consists of four numbers between 0 and 255 and separated by a period with the IPv4 protocol (for example, 198.133.219.25 or 91.173.253.69) or a longer hexadecimal sequence of groups of four characters separated by double -points (for example, 2a01: c0b: 36f: c179: d4ec: ea3: 3d1a: e925) with IPv6, a newer protocol version capable of identifying more devices on the global network.
